Welcome to authentic EPPP coaching and tutoring!
I am Dr. Fukiko Shibahara. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in California. I am also a coach and tutor, helping you build confidence and prepare to pass the licensing exam for Psychologists in the United States -Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP). I offer a safe, efficient, and stimulating learning experience so that you can have a sense of ownership of your learning stepping stones. I am excited to work with you!
I am a graduate of the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP) program at Alliant International University in San Francisco. I completed an APA Internship at Children's Institute, Inc in 2015 with a specialization in Infant/Early Childhood Mental Health, and completed my postdoctoral fellowship in early 2017.
While I became license-eligible in 2016, I did not (or could not) take the exam until 2021. Having gone through the entire process of licensing, I cannot emphasize enough the impacts of adversities and personal vulnerabilities that one has on achieving goals, including this high stakes exam for licensure. Even though I wished to advance my career along with my peers, I was faced with immense difficulties that were out of my control. I spent many years working hard to have my basic and humanistic needs met, and when my life was finally aligning, I was finally ready to study and pass the exam.
Research by Sharples (2019) found there are significant differences among ethnic backgrounds in the rate of not passing at first trial. Out of a total of 4892 first-time applicants, people of color represented a considerably higher rate of failing (i.e., Blacks = 38.50%; Hispanics = 35.60%; Asians = 24.00%; Whites = 14.07%). In 2018, Bowman and Ameen also uncovered that psychologists of color were approximately 10% less likely to pass than white psychologists. While the research cannot directly single out why these gaps exist, the process of licensing can be extremely time-consuming and emotionally and financially challenging, in addition to the difficulty of content mastery. After having collected and tried study options from major EPPP prep programs across the course of 5 years, a key turning point in my journey for passing was developing a sense of ownership of the content and test-taking process. I spent hundreds of hours creating visually organizing materials that made sense across different prep programs, addressing both consistencies and inconsistencies. I hope to encourage you to make your learning creative and authentic, which may ultimately enhance your associations, memory, and performance.

In order to serve doctors in need of my services, I will ask for a copy of approval of eligibility to take the EPPP issued by the Board of Psychology in your jurisdiction, prior to scheduling the initial appointment. Lastly, in order to accommodate unique needs of all, the schedule is offered as needed-basis. As a result, you may experience scheduling difficulty at times. It is advised to explore availability and schedule sessions in advance or sign up for a waitlist.
